Ingredients
225g self-raising flour
1 level tsp mixed spice
115g butter, cut into cubes
100g granulated sugar
125g mixed dried fruit
1 large egg, beaten
1-2 tbsp milk
Marzipan, to decorate
Method
1Pre-heat the oven to 200C/180C Fan/Gas 6. Line 2 baking trays with baking paper. Sift the flour and mixed spice into a bowl.
2Add the butter, then rub in with your fingertips until it resembles breadcrumbs. Stir in the sugar and fruit.
3Stir in the egg and 1 tbsp milk to make a stiff dough. You may need extra milk - add a teaspoon at a time.
4Put in 10 piles on the trays and press lightly into bun shapes. Roll the marzipan to make thin strips. Put on top of the cakes to make crosses.
5Bake for 15 minutes, then leave to cool on a wire rack.
