The work of Community Champions, alongside Asda’s charity, the Asda Foundation, remains a lifeline for many grassroots community groups and charities. Community Champions usually spend their time out and about delivering practical support, listening to our communities’ needs, and working with local people to channel funding and assistance where it is needed the most.
Here's how they can help
From outreach programmes to grant giving, our Community Champions listen to our communities’ needs. They work tirelessly to support charities, projects and initiatives that make a real impact for local people. They also build close relationships with local schools, working with teachers to promote healthy food and an active lifestyle, enthusing children about cooking and talking to them about protecting the environment.
In 2022, our Community Champions worked with over 21,000 local groups across the UK, donating over £560,000 worth of goods.
Raising funds and awareness for local groups
Run fundraising events in our stores, through bag packing, bucket collections and by donating goods to fundraising events. Our Community Champions have also taken part in some remarkable colleague fundraising events – from shaving their hair off to running marathons. In everything they do, they make us all incredibly proud.
National Charity Partnerships
Our Community Champions will help raise vital funds and raise awareness of our National Charity Partners. We currently have two National Charity campaigns: Asda Tickled Pink and BBC Children in Need. The monies raised by our Community Champions is used by our partners to increase awareness of their aims and the support they give to our local communities.
Community Champion Profile
We sat down with Alan our Community Champion at Asda Hunts Cross and asked him about his job and what it is like to be a Community Champion. Here’s what he said.

Happy Little Helpers
Our Happy Little Helpers initiative is a free shopping list board game available at the Customer Service Desk in our large stores. We have been working with The Makaton Charity to provide Happy Little Helper Boards with Makaton counters – which are designed to make shopping trips feel less intense and more enjoyable for people with learning and communication difficulties.
