It represents our commitment to provide fruit & vegetables that have undergone rigorous quality checks. Because so much of our produce is managed at packing sites that we own, we’re better placed to select the very best for your shelves.
We care about the environment.
So, we're taking big steps to improve the way we work and package our produce and we're working hard to make sure our produce is as sustainable as possible.
Find out what we're doing - and how you can be more sustainable at home.
The benefits to vertical farming are:
90% less water usage than traditional farming
Grown using 100% renewable energy
Products can be grown 365 days a year
Asda were the first UK retailer to launch a range of 3 branded salad bags nationwide and online that have been vertically farmed.
A selection of our Asda own label fresh herbs (parsley, coriander, mint, basil and dill) are also farmed vertically for selected stores across the country*Selected stores apply. Stores out of Bristol, Bedford, Lutterworth & Erith depots only.
Peppers store well in the freezer - prepare them in an airtight container and freeze until you're ready to cook with them!
Freeze chopped herbs with water in ice cube trays for an easy way to add flavour to your cooking - or pop them into a salad.
Pop leftover lemons, limes, berries and cucumbers in the freezer - then add them to your favourite drink!
Ditch the shopping list - take a picture of your cupboards, fridge and freezer. This will stop you buying anything you already have.
If your bananas, berries or strawberries have gone squishy, make smoothies out of them! Simply blend with fruit juice, milk, or a plant-based alternative.
Turn your fridge temperature down. Most fridges in the UK are set to 7°, but food actually lasts longer when stored at 5°.
Our growers take some fantastic initiatives in improving their sustainability and working to look after the environment surrounding them. Here’s just some examples...
Sustainable Farming
We understand the importance of farming techniques in sustainability. Our longstanding vegetable supplier Riviera has switched to regenerative farming techniques, which have increased the populations of earthworms and pollinators and improved the structure of the soil, therefore reducing CO2 losses.
Promoting Biodiversity
Biodiversity is on the decline and is important to our ecosystem on this planet. One of our citrus suppliers in Spain has increased the insect species in their orchards to support with natural pest control and reduce the need for insecticides.
Promoting Natural Habitats
We understand the importance of natural habitats. One of our potatoes farmers has been supporting wildlife by growing a range of wildflowers across an unproductive 7-acre area of the farm (about the size of 4 football fields!).
