Ingredients
100g butter, plus extra for greasing
150g Asda Extra Special Plain Chocolate
150g Asda Ground Almonds
2 medium oranges, zest of
2 tbsp freshly squeezed orange juice
6 large free-range eggs, separated
100g caster sugar
3 tbsp cocoa powder
Method
1Pre-heat the oven to 160C/140C Fan/Gas 3. Grease a 23cm round, deep cake tin with butter and line the base with baking paper.
2Break the chocolate into squares and put in a bowl with the butter. Stand the bowl over a pan of simmering water and leave until the chocolate and butter have melted. Remove from the pan and set aside for 5 minutes to cool slightly.
3Stir in the ground almonds, orange zest and juice and the egg yolks.
4Whisk the egg whites until stiff. Add 1 tbsp caster sugar and whisk until stiff again. Repeat with the rest of the sugar, whisking after each addition. Add a quarter of the whisked egg whites to the chocolate mixture and fold in. Then fold in the rest.
5Turn into the prepared cake tin and bake for 35-40 minutes. Leave to cool in the tin for 15 minutes, then turn out on a wire rack to finish cooling. Serve dusted with the cocoa powder.
