Supporting

Purple Tuesday

Being an accessible business for our customers and colleagues is really important to us.

That’s why we’re proud supporters of Purple Tuesday, an initiative that highlights challenges that disabled people can face and calls for action to improve customer service.

There are an estimated 14.1 million people with a disability living in the UK (Scope), and 80% of disabilities are hidden (Purple). That’s why it’s so important not to make assumptions and to look out for those around us who may need some extra time or support.

This year, we’ve turned purple to help raise awareness of what more needs to be done to support people with disabilities. Here’s some of the things we’re doing to make sure we’re an inclusive place to work and shop.

We’ve also updated our Store Locator website to include better accessibility information about each of our stores, including information on our new ‘Quieter Hour’, from 2pm to 3pm Monday to Thursday, where we’re reducing the noise levels across our stores by turning off our in-store radio and limiting tannoy announcements.

We know there is always more to do to make sure everyone feels supported, which is why Asda have sponsored Purple Tuesday 365; an annual learning subscription service that helps organisations and their colleagues to access knowledge, and practical approaches to provide better everyday experiences for disabled people and their families.

It’s so important that we do all we can to help ensure our customers and colleagues feel comfortable when at our stores, and we hope that by supporting Purple Tuesday and taking these steps to be more inclusive that we can move closer to achieving this.

"Purple is absolutely delighted Asda is our Purple 365 partner.  To change the disability conversation requires organisations to take all their colleagues on the journey.  Through knowledge, understanding, new approaches and confidence. Asda is doing exactly that and is the ideal partner to take everyone else with us.  We are equally proud they are supporting Purple Tuesday."
