Ingredients
200g Asda Wholemeal Bread Flour, plus extra for dusting
1tbsp caster sugar
25g unsalted butter
7g sachet Asda Easy Bake Yeast
1 egg, beaten
75ml skimmed milk
75g icing sugar
Black food colouring
Orange food colouring
Method
1Put the flour and sugar into a large mixing bowl. Use your fingertips to rub in the butter until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs, then stir in the yeast. Mix in the egg.
2Heat the milk in a pan until it is warm, not hot. Add to the flour and mix with a wooden spoon until it comes together as a soft dough. Tip onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5 mins until it is smooth and elastic. Return the dough to the bowl, cover with a clean tea towel and leave to rise in a warm place for 1 hr or until doubled in size.
3Tip the dough out, knead for 1 min until smooth, then divide into 15 pieces.
4Roll each piece into a 10cm-long sausage. Pinch either end together to create a ring. Line a baking tray with baking paper and arrange the doughnuts 5cm apart. Cover with a clean tea towel. Leave to rise for 30 mins.
5Preheat the oven to 190C/170C Fan/Gas 5. Bake the doughnuts for 10-12 mins until risen and golden. Cool fully.
6Meanwhile, mix the icing sugar with a little water until you have a smooth, thick paste. Put a quarter of the icing in a separate bowl, colour with black food colouring and place in a piping bag.
7 Colour the remaining icing orange and spread onto the cooled doughnuts. Use the black icing to pipe a spider-web shape onto the doughnuts and leave to set before serving.
