Ingredients
375g pack Asda Ready Rolled Puff Pastry
4 Granny Smith apples
80g caster sugar
Small pinch cinnamon
1 egg, beaten
3tbsp apricot jam
Cake Décor Edible Eyes
Method
1Remove a 375g pack Asda Ready Rolled Puff Pastry from the fridge 10-15 mins before needed.
2Peel, core and slice 4 Granny Smith apples and put in a pan with 80g caster sugar and a small pinch cinnamon. Cook on a low heat until soft and golden. Set aside to cool.
3Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 200C/180C Fan/Gas 6.
4Unroll the pastry, leaving it on the baking paper provided, so the shorter side faces you. Spoon the apple down the centre of the pastry, leaving a 2cm border at the top and bottom.
5For the ‘mummy’ bandage effect, use a sharp knife to slice the pastry into 1cm-wide strips from the outer border towards the filling (stop when you’re 1cm away from the apple mixture).
6Fold over the top and bottom 2cm section of the pastry. Alternating from both sides, fold the pastry strips over, crisscrossing to encase the apple in a plait, until you reach the bottom. Chill for 20 mins.
7Brush the pastry with 1 egg, beaten. Bake for 25-30 mins or until golden.
8Allow to cool forafew minutes then brush over 3tbsp apricot jam to glaze. Decorate with Cake Décor Edible Eyes before serving.
