Our range of six exciting wines will transport you somewhere new with every sip.
Imagine yourself in the peak of summer, unwinding after a long day. The first sip of a perfectly chilled white wine, a soft and fruity rosé, or a deliciously balanced glass of red – these are the moments that wine enthusiasts live for. A curious and adventurous breed, wine-lovers are always eager to explore new and unknown regions through the medium of their glass. Now, with the exclusive and newly improved range – The Wine Atlas, created by Asda’s in-house wine experts – you can join this group of aficionados and sample delicious, and perhaps lesser-known, varieties from the comfort of your own home, without breaking the bank.
Devotees may remember that The Wine Atlas first appeared on Asda’s shelves in 2013. This unique wine range was lovingly created by expert growers and producers from a diverse variety of locations. The idea was to offer an ‘explorers’ wine range that transported customers around the world with a range of wines that were made using less-familiar grapes from different parts of the globe. Each bottle of The Wine Atlas is a testament to the rich history and unique terroir of its origin, offering a truly global wine-tasting experience.
Eleven years later, The Wine Atlas is back and even better than it was before, with five new wines and one greatly loved original – the Feteasca Regala. Its purpose is still the same: to deliver expertly crafted, premium wines at an affordable price. Don’t recognise the names on the label? Don't worry, our Asda wine expert Clive Donaldson will help you choose your perfect wine and discover something new along the way. Clive has studied winemaking in Australia and worked in all areas of the drinks industry. His skills include hand-selecting fine varieties and building best-selling brands.
Carricante is an ancient white grape variety that has been grown on the slopes of Mount Etna for at least a thousand years. This citrus, peach and orange blossom-flavoured wine from Sicily’s volcanic slopes is complemented by underlying mineral notes, which brings bright acidity and a refreshing finish to this Italian wine. Delicious when paired with marinated chicken or white fish dishes.
Grown within sight of the southern French Provence coast, the vineyards of Corsica enjoy hours of sunshine, tempered by the cool of the Mediterranean Sea breeze, creating a fresh and floral wine. This delicate, dry rosé is similar in style to the Provence varieties but uses some of Corsica’s own grapes to add its own red cherry aromatics and a refreshing pink grapefruit-flavoured finish. Try a glass with a tuna Niçoise salad.
Roditis is a native Greek grape that adds deep, complex floral notes to the classic citrus flavours of sauvignon blanc. Bright and refreshing, this Peloponnese wine has notes of crisp apples, fresh pear and zesty citrus. Perfect with a Greek salad or other light, summery dishes or anything bursting with lemon and herb flavour notes.
Meaning ‘Royal Maiden’, the Feteasca Regala grape is unique to Romania and creates crisp, tropical fruit flavoured wines. This wine is one of the original Wine Atlas wines and has become one of our top sellers. This spicy peach and tropical fruit-filled wine would be a great one to try with spicy Asian-inspired dishes or stir-fries.
Monastrell, also called Mouvedre in France, makes fuller-bodied, dry, and complex rosé wines, mostly famously in the region of Bandol. This great-value Spanish version has aromas of raspberry, fennel and a touch of dried Mediterranean herbs. Being fuller bodied, this is brilliant with all your big BBQ flavours. Bring on garlic, anchovies, olives, chili, smoke – this rosé can handle it all with ease.
‘Jaen’ is the Portuguese name for the on-trend Spanish Mencia grape that creates medium-bodied wines with a bright cherry colour, red berry flavours and hints of thyme and spicy liquorice. Try this lightly chilled if you like lighter reds. Excellent food and wine pairings include pork, and cured meats such as salami. The wine’s acidity and fruity notes complement the richness of the meat, creating a harmonious balance of flavours.
