<p>It&rsquo;s safe to say that this is the year of hygge; a Danish word which, although can&rsquo;t be translated into English directly, is used to describe the art of having a warm, cosy and relaxed time, taking care of yourself and spending time with those you love.</p><p>More of a feeling and lifestyle than one particular ‘thing&rsquo;, hygge (pronounced hue-gah) can mean indulging in a hot chocolate surrounded by cosy throws, enjoying a hearty family meal surrounded by all your loved ones, or soaking in a candlelit bath with a delicious glass of wine.</p><p>It&rsquo;s the things that make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, and though an integral part of Danish living all year round, really kicks in during the autumn and winter months.</p><p>In her new book <em>Hygge: The Danish Art of Happiness</em>, Marie Tourell Søderberg explains: ‘Hygge is for everyone, whoever you are, wherever you are.&rsquo;</p><p>‘You experience it when you are able to be fully present in the moment, and feel content and at ease. Hygge often happens when you are together with the people closest to you, your nearest and dearest; people with whom you can be open and sincere with, where you don't have to pretend to be anything besides who you are.&rsquo;</p><p>With Brits taking a keener than ever interest in just what makes the Danes so happy (studies regularly find the people of Denmark to be the happiest and most content in the world), hygge is now taking the UK by storm.</p><p>Intrigued?
