You’re definitely not imagining it, your hair might actually be genetically ‘uncombable’  

If you&rsquo;ve ever struggled to get a brush through your tangled hair, or battled with your frizzy mop on a daily basis, then we've got great news. You&rsquo;ll be pleased to know that your frizzy mop might not be down to your non-existent hair care regime.Scientists now believe that dry and frizzy hair might actually be caused by genetics (in other words, it's not our fault - hurrah!)<img alt="tangled_hair__hero" class="ci-image ci-hero" src="https://ui3.assets-asda.com/dm/tangled_hair__hero_GL?scl=1">According to researchers at the Universities of Bonn and Toulouse in Germany and France, there are mutations in three genes that can cause ‘uncombable hair syndrome&rsquo; (UHS), leaving people with disordered hair that cannot be controlled with brushing.Study co-author Professor Regina Betz recently published details about the syndrome, also referred to as spun-glass hair, in <a href="http://www.cell.com/ajhg/abstract/S0002-9297(16)30440-2" target="_blank">The American Journal of Human Genetics</a>.The study involved 11 children who had been diagnosed with UHS. In order to identify any gene mutations that might be associated with UHS, researchers looked at the genes of these children and compared them with large national databases.<iframe allowfullscreen class="giphy-embed" frameborder="0" height="354" src="//giphy.com/embed/Ty2Mwfhl2HwDC" width="480"></iframe><a href="https://giphy.com/gifs/hair-Ty2Mwfhl2HwDC">via GIPHY</a>Professor Betz said of the results: “From the mutations found, a huge amount can be learned about the mechanisms involved in forming healthy hair, and why disorders sometimes occur. At the same time, we can now secure the clinical diagnosis of 'uncombable hair' with molecular genetic methods."Since UHS was first described in the early 1970s, little information has arisen about what causes it.“Those who suffer from uncombable hair do not necessarily seek help for this from a doctor or hospital," Professor Betz commented.
