 The secret to looking great is all in your make-up application, discover how makeup artists and celebs create a more defined face.

<p>If you&rsquo;ve seen photos of bare-faced celebrities next to snaps of their red carpet appearances, you&rsquo;ll know the wonders of proper make-up application.<br><br>Just one of the many transformative make-up techniques is called ‘contouring&rsquo;, a clever way of playing with light and proportions to create the illusion of a slimmer face.<br><br>While you may have seen elaborate step-by-step shots taken by make-up artists and the likes of Kim Kardashian on Instagram, a beautiful and natural contoured look is incredibly easy to achieve.<br><br>If you&rsquo;ve never tried contouring before set aside 30 minutes to go through our five-step guide to the art. Ready, let&rsquo;s begin!</p><p> </p><h2>What you&rsquo;ll need: </h2><ul><li>Foundation</li><li>Bronzing powder (preferably matte)</li><li>Highlighting powder</li><li>Angled brush</li><li>Small brush</li><li>Eyebrow pencil</li><li>Liquid eyeliner</li><li>Mascara</li></ul><h2>Step 1: Map Your Face </h2><p>Start with a clean base using your usual foundation to even out your skintone. With gentle, sweeping strokes go over the areas you want to contour with your bronzer.<br><br>Dust over your temples, then suck in your cheeks to find the hollows (do a fish face, c&rsquo;mon no one&rsquo;s watching!). Go over the imaginary diagonal line from the centre of this area towards your ear, remember the darker the line, the more defined your cheekbones will look.<br><br>To create a more defined jaw, sweep bronzer along your jawline stopping at your chin and near your ear lobes. Next, use your smaller brush to dust the sides and the tip of your nose.</p><h2>Step 2: Light Up Your Face </h2><p>To balance out the look and give your skin a luminous glow, grab your highlighting powder to accentuate the tops of your cheekbones and the centre of your forehead. Swap to a smaller brush to highlight the bridge of your nose, the centre of your chin and your cupid&rsquo;s bow.</p><h2>Step 3: Blend, Baby, Blend </h2><p>By now you&rsquo;re probably thinking what have we done to your face! Use your blending brush to buff your face until you have a beautiful seamless look &ndash; no more dual-toned face. But before you head out to parade your slimmer, more sculpted face, sweep a little bronzer across your neck, because you always want your face and neck to match.</p><h2>Step 4: Arch Your Eyebrows</h2><p>A higher, more obvious arch opens up the face by giving the appearance of an elongated space and bigger eyes. Growing your brows? A fuller brow is very on-trend at the moment so reach for your brow pencil instead of your tweezers, and fill them so they frame your face proportionately.</p><h2>Step 5: Ink a Cat&rsquo;s Eye </h2><p>From Cleopatra, Brigitte Bardot to Dita Von Teese, iconic beauties down the years have all made a case for the power of a classic winged eyeliner. Perhaps they knew the cat&rsquo;s eye&rsquo;s ability to draw attention to the side of your face and away from the centre (the widest part of your face).
