Cleaning the oven; it&rsquo;s one of those chores that either gets relegated to the end of the to-do list for months, or a task we lament out loud every second it takes us to scrub things down!But what if it was quick, simple and painless? No clouds of strong chemicals stinging your eyes and no long afternoons spent greased up to your elbows?According to cleaning pros, this can be the reality if you&rsquo;re armed with a little insider knowledge.From fresh lemon juice to white vinegar and bicarbonate of soda, here are the tricks of the trade that can make oven cleaning a squeaky clean breeze…Step 1: First up, we&rsquo;d suggest you wear rubber gloves at all times. Then, remove all the oven racks and to save yourself time, fill your sink with very warm water and washing up liquid, and leave them to soak while you take on the main challenge.Step 2: If you prefer to use a chemical oven cleaner, be sure to follow both the instructions from the oven manufacturer as well as those on the bottle. You should also make sure that your kitchen is well ventilated before you start - open any windows to get a good circulation of fresh air.Step 3: If you prefer to use gentler chemical-free methods, start by popping a heat-resistant bowl of water mixed with a little freshly squeezed lemon juice in the oven, and heat it up on a high temperature for around 20 minutes. This helps to loosen up all the dirt and grease, but be careful when taking it back out. You&rsquo;ll need oven gloves rather than your rubber ones!Step 4: Tackle any burnt-on oven spills with bicarbonate of soda. Mixing up a paste using two parts bicarb and one part distilled malt vinegar (white vinegar) is great for spreading on stubborn stains. Slather it on and leave for a few minutes.Step 5: Using a non-abrasive sponge or scrubber (best not to use wire scourers for this), tackle the stubborn spots which should now come away easily. It&rsquo;s normal for either the bicarb paste or oven cleaners to have turned brown while lifting the dirt.Step 6: Once you&rsquo;ve done all the tough spots, soak a sponge in some vinegar diluted with water, and wipe down the whole of the inside of the oven and the glass windows. The vinegar will remove all the leftover traces of bicarb or cleaning product, as well any left-behind grease.Step 7: Give the inside a final wipe-down with a clean damp dish cloth, before wiping down the oven racks that have been soaking in the sink - they should now be easy to clean.Step 8: Reassemble the oven by putting all the dry racks back in, and then stand back to admire your speedy but successful cleaning skills.
