Manchester Olympic cyclist, Shanaze Reade, put her BMX skills to good use around Asda Eastlands...

Out of all the things you'd expect to see during your weekly Asda shop, an Olympic cyclist probably isn't one of them! But that's exactly what happened when Manchester Olympic cyclist, Shanaze Reade, 27, biked into Asda Eastlands on July 1st to check out some of the store's brand new features.The Asda Eastlands store recently received a £4.4 million refresh, and to celebrate they invited the Olympian along to give some of their new features a spin between training for Rio 2016. Thankfully Shanaze didn't have to go far, as the newly refurbished store is situated right next to the city&rsquo;s cycling home, the Velodrome, so she just popped in between laps. In fact, the whole visit was so quick that she didn't even have to get off her bike to check out everything the new store has to offer!Andy Watson, General Store Manager at Asda Eastlands, said of the unusual visit: “It was great fun to have an Olympian like Shanaze visit us instore and tour our new features. This has been an exciting time for the store and its colleagues and it&rsquo;s been great to welcome Mancunian shoppers and show them our complete transformation. The reaction to our new departments and neighbouring retailers has been fantastic and our extended range of fresh, quality food seems to have gone down a treat.”Of course, this wasn't just any regular visit. Introducing shoppers to the newly renovated store in a brand new way, Shanaze used her BMX skills to easily and impressively navigate between the aisles and customers, all while wearing a special GoPro camera in order to show shoppers exactly what they're getting with the new store. With plenty of brand new features, including but not limited to, the popular butchers and meat concession counter McGees, a brand new Express Diner, offering quick, convenient food for all the family, AND improved fresh selection and bakery, complete with speciality breads and popcorn, there's lots to get excited about.If that wasn't exciting enough, Asda Eastlands also welcomes two new businesses to the site, including one of the world&rsquo;s largest sporting goods retailers, Decathlon, so that shoppers can get inspired to take part in their own sporting events. There's even 'The Learning Factor', a tuition centre providing children aged 4-11 with an academic foundation in maths and english, at a time when the challenges and competition within schools are ever increasing.Now that's what we call an Olympian's eye view!
