From dark thrillers to laugh out loud comedies, these new releases are sure to have you gripped...

By the looks of things, 2017 is going to be a great year for new releases, with a variety of exciting movies, DVDs, books and CDs coming out.

There's the much-anticipated release from author Paula Hawkins, called Into the Water, which we've been waiting for since we finished reading her first thriller, The Girl on the Train, and there's also Ed Sheeran's new album titled '÷' to get excited about.

And let's not forget about E.L James' Fifty Shades Darker, which will be hitting the big screens just in time for Valentine's Day.

So, if you fancy yourself as a movie buff, but missed a new release in the cinema, or are an avid reader but haven't been gripped by a good read in ages, here are 10 of the most anticipated new releases 2017 has to offer.

    The Girl Before

    Book released: January 24th

If you're into thrillers, then this read is the book for you. When two women are asked to make a list of every possession they consider essential to their life, the consequences are devastating.

    Bridget Jones's Baby

    DVD released: January 30th

Where would we be without good old Bridge? The third and final movie hit the big screens in September last year raking in £30m in just 17 days - making it the fastest pace ever set for a romantic comedy.

Fans of the bestselling book series will remember that in the last instalment, Bridget Jones’s Diary: Mad About The Boy, Mark Darcy sadly met a fateful end, leaving Bridget a widow (sad times). So it’s with great joy that the film picks up long before that happens, meaning Darcy will be back on our screens for one last time.

    Fifty Shades Darker

    Movie released: February 10th

Fifty Shades of Grey was the film which divided the opinion of thousands, but nonetheless, if you watch the first movie then you need to finish watching the two-part sequel, right? This time we see a wounded Christian Grey (played by Jamie Dornan) try to entice a cautious Anastasia Steele (who Dakota Johnson plays) back into his life.

    Ed Sheeran

    CD released: 3rd March 2017

It's the album we've all been waiting for, and with March just around the corner we won't have to wait too much longer! In December 2015, Ed announced that he was ‘taking a break…to travel the world and see everything I missed’. His year-long break followed on from the success of his second album 'X', which gave us the likes of Sing, Don’t and Thinking Out Loud.

And earlier this year, on Friday January 6, after a year of no social media communication, he gave his fans a very warm hello by posting a video on Twitter where he's seen holding a piece of paper with the words, “New music coming Friday!!” written on it.

    Beauty and the Beast

    Movie released: March 17th

The tale as old as time will be hitting the big screen soon, and if you couldn't tell already, we just can't wait! Staring Emma Watson as Belle, and Downton Abbey’s Dan Stevens as the Beast, the star-studded cast also features Ewan McGregor playing the candlestick Lumière and Ian McKellen as Cogsworth.

Get ready to jump on your broomsticks, whip out your capes and practice your magic, as Warner Bros will be releasing the upcoming Harry Potter spin-off, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, on DVD. This time, author J.K. Rowling is telling the extraordinary tale of zoologist Newt Scamander (played by Eddie Redmayne) in 1920s America.

Arriving into New York with his weathered suitcase that's filled to the brim with mystical devices and enchanted creatures, Newt finds himself in need of a helping hand (or four) when some of his magical beasts escape. However, he soon discovers that wild creatures on the loose aren't the only threat facing the American wizarding world. Intrigued? Be sure to grab your copy if you didn't manage to catch it in cinemas.

Brought to you from the bestselling author of The Girl on the Train, Paula Hawkins will be releasing a new psychological thriller. Wonder Woman

    Movie released: June 2nd

Actress Gal Gadot takes centre stage in this DC Entertainment action movie, which is set in the early 20th century. Viewers will see the Amazon princess Diana, who is living on the fictional island of Themyscira, meet American military pilot Steve Trevor when he is washed ashore. After learning from him about the ongoing events of World War I, she leaves her home to bring an early end to the war.

Our favourite miniature yellow minions are back for some more mischief. Game of Thrones

    Released on TV: Summer

Season 7 is set to be the penultimate season and according to the trailer, it looks like it’s going to be all about the House of Stark. The trailer showed us a shot of Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) who appears to be in the godswood in Winterfell. She's certainly dressed for the North, but who is she so surprised to see? The new season is set to launch on the small screens in summer this year.
