The homework problem has left students and children baffled! 

For most of us, we haven't had to have a go at solving a tricky maths question in a few years or so. But that's alright - we still know how to do it, right? Erm, maybe. When a 43-year-old dad tried to help his 10-year-old son with his maths homework, he found himself totally stumped. The Year 5 pupil in Glossop, Derbyshire was assigned the seemingly simple maths question for homework. But the dad (who has an A level in maths and economics) deemed the question 'impossible' and had to reach out to others for help on Facebook. But other adults were just as confused!‘I then spent an hour or so trying to work it out but found it impossible,&rsquo; the dad told <a href="http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/can-you-solve-impossible-maths-11437050" target="_blank">Manchester Evening News.</a>‘I even sent it to a friend who got a 1st class degree in economics and they were baffled by it as well.&rsquo;The questions asks pupils to "calculate the perimeter of the the composite rectilinear shapes." The first shape has two measurements labelled on the sides and the other shape has three measurements.  Can you work it out?<img alt="maths_question_for_10_year_old" class="ci-image ci-original" src="https://ui3.assets-asda.com/dm/maths_question_for_10_year_old_GL?scl=1">Not so easy! We don't know about you, but we're certainly glad that we don't have to solve these types of tricky maths problems anymore. And just in case you still haven't figured it out (us neither!) - the answer to both questions is 44.
