Happy birthday Ma'am!</p><h2>Age 19</h2><p>After months of begging her father, King George VI, to let her assist in WWII efforts, Elizabeth joined the Women's Auxiliary Territorial Service. Known as Second Subaltern Elizabeth Windsor, she trained in London as a mechanic and military truck driver. Doesn't she look fab in those coveralls?</p><p><iframe allowfullscreen frameborder="0" height="415" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/R2grMaRttws?rel=0" width="760"></iframe></p><h2>Age 21</h2><p>Princess Elizabeth married Philip Mountbatten, formerly prince of Greece and Denmark, on November 20, 1947. As this was during the postwar recovery years, their wedding was a relatively modest affair (royally speaking). In fact, Elizabeth famously saved up ration coupons to purchase the material for her wedding dress, a beautiful satin gown designed by Norman Hartnell and encrusted with 10,000 white pearls.</p><p><iframe allowfullscreen frameborder="0" height="415" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/UHRK4knt7z8?rel=0" width="760"></iframe></p><h2>Age 22</h2><p>Shortly after getting married, the Royal couple welcomed their first child and heir to the throne, Prince Charles. Born on November 14, 1948, the whole country and beyond celebrated the first child born to a British reigning sovereign for over a hundred years. Isn't baby Charles adorable?</p><p><iframe allowfullscreen frameborder="0" height="415" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/tfUFAUHFFAw" width="760"></iframe></p><h2>Age 27</h2><p>On 2 June 1953, Queen Elizabeth II was coronated at Westminister Abby. Although she had in fact ascended the throne at the age of 25, upon the death of her father, the coronation was delayed for more than a year because holding such a celebration is traditionally deemed inappropriate during the mourning period. This was the first time that the ceremony was broadcast on television, allowing people from all over the world to observe the spectacle.</p><p><iframe allowfullscreen frameborder="0" height="415" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/bTOXdND_Yoo?rel=0" width="760"></iframe></p><h2>Age 31</h2><p>For many of us, the Queen&rsquo;s speech at Christmas is as traditional as mince pies. But it wasn&rsquo;t always so! Here at age 31, we see the young Queen Elizabeth in the very first televised Christmas broadcast filmed at Sandringham House in Norfolk in 1957. Queen Elizabeth II was there to congratulate the team and hand over the trophy &ndash; which was almost as the same colour as her lovely coat. On 7 June, 1977, more than one million people line the streets of London to catch a glimpse of the Royal Family on their way to St Paul's for the celebrations. Millions more tuned in to watch on television and many celebrated with their neighbours and friends with themed street parties.</p><p><iframe allowfullscreen frameborder="0" height="415" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/TTfl83VkyII" width="760"></iframe></p><h2>Age 56</h2><p>The Queen's eldest son, Prince Charles, marries Lady Diana Spencer on 29 July 1981, in St Paul's Cathedral. While Princess Diana wore a suitably 80s style wedding dress, the Queen wore a lovely, demure blue dress with a matching hat and purse.
