Where would we be without the humble Yorkshire pud?

<p>Yorkshire; a county blessed with beautiful countryside, historical towns and cities, and home to many marvellous foodie creations, inventors and Olympians. </p><p>From famous literary geniuses, like the Brontë sisters, to delectable confectionery products like the <a href="https://groceries.asda.com/product/chocolate-biscuits/kitkat-2-finger-milk-chocolate-biscuit-bar-9-pack/910003122063" target="_blank">KitKat</a>, there's a lot to be thankful for from God's own County. And the list of amazing things hailing from the biggest county in the UK doesn't stop there: <a href="http://www.asda.com/" target="_blank">Asda</a> can also trace its roots back to a group of Yorkshire farmers in the 1920s. </p><p>So with August 1 marking Yorkshire Day, now would be the ideal time to say 'ta' to the white rose county. Here are 6 things we're thankful for...</p><h2>1. The inimitable Yorkshire pudding</h2><p>Possibly (definitely) the best part of a Sunday roast? The first recorded recipe was written in 1737 and published in a book called, '<em>The Whole Duty Of A Woman</em>'. Originally the pudding was served as a starter with gravy to fill people up so they wouldn't need as much meat during the main course. Since then, this tasty combination of flour, egg and milk has become a Sunday dinner staple for roast-lovers everywhere. The idea for The white rabbit</h2><p>Appearing at the very beginning of Lewis Carroll's classic children's novel, <a href="https://groceries.asda.com/product/kids-dvds-blurays/dvd-disney-alice-in-wonderland-60th-anniversary-edition/910000402695" target="_blank"><em>Alice in Wonderland</em></a>, the white rabbit is seen wearing a waistcoat, and muttering "Oh dear! Oh dear! I shall be too late!" Alice follows him down the rabbit hole into Wonderland. But did you know this loveable character was inspired by a stone rabbit which Carroll spotted above the entrance to the sacristy inside St Mary&rsquo;s Church in Beverley, Hull? CHEEEEESe GROMIT!</h2><p>According to Wallace & Gromit, there's only one type worth putting in your sandwiches, and that's real Yorkshire <a href="https://groceries.asda.com/product/cheese-slices/wensleydale-creamery-wensleydale/910001526847" target="_blank">Wensleydale Cheese</a>. The creamery has been based at Hawes in Wensleydale in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park since 1897 and creating the popular blocks of crumbly greatness ever since. We suggest trying it with your fruit cake or Christmas cake - trust us, they've been doing it in Yorkshire as far back as the 1900s. </p><h2>5. Home of Party Rings</h2><p>Yorkshire is also home to many famous confectionery products, like the famous <a href="https://groceries.asda.com/product/chocolate-biscuits/kitkat-2-finger-milk-chocolate-biscuit-bar-9-pack/910003122063" target="_blank">KitKat</a>, Christmas stocking favourite, Terry's <a href="https://groceries.asda.com/product/boxed-chocolates-gifts/terrys-chocolate-orange/910002379821" target="_blank">Chocolate Orange</a>, and the <a href="https://groceries.asda.com/product/multipack-chocolate/yorkie-original-chocolate-bar-3-pack/910001590762" target="_blank">Yorkie bar</a>. And while we're very grateful for all of these, there's one retro sweet treat which can top this - <a href="https://groceries.asda.com/product/everyday-biscuits/foxs-party-rings/19991" target="_blank">Party Rings</a>. The multicoloured sugary biscuit rose to fame in the 1980s and soon became a staple of kids' birthday parties across the land. </p><h2>6. Pudsey Bear</h2><p>The Children In Need mascot was created by BBC designer Joanna Ball, and took his name from her home town in Yorkshire. Since 1985, he's been the face of the <a href="https://www.asda.com/good-living/article/pudseys-teddy-bears-picnic-for-bbc-children-in-need" target="_blank">Children in Need charity</a>, helping to raise millions for disabled children and young people in the UK.  </p><p><img alt="bbc-children-in-need-pudsey__hero" class="ci-image ci-hero" src="https://ui3.assets-asda.com/dm/bbc-children-in-need-pudsey__hero_GL?scl=1"></p>
