    If you love eating desserts and puddings at this time of the year but aren’t too keen on raisins, dates and rum (which are synonymous with the traditional Christmas pud), stick to something everyone will love - chocolate.

    We've rounded up all the ways you and your family can create, buy and make a delicious festive chocolate showstopper, without a raisin in sight. These recipes are great to make with the kids as it will keep them entertained for hours and they'll love eating their finished creation too!

    Chocolate smash cake

    Wow your guests with Asda's show-stopping Christmas pudding smash cake. It's the perfect finale to any feast as this chocolate alternative consists of a moist chocolate sponge cake topped with a milk chocolate dome-decorated with marshmallow frosting.

    Break a hole in the dome to reveal a surprise chocolate malt ball and edible gold star centre. It's smashing!

    Christmas tree mousse

    With their colourful appearance and traditional festive charm, these chocolate desserts are sure to be a welcome addition to your Christmas menu.

    Use our chocolate mousse recipe to make the mousse and then put the mixture in a shot glass.

    Get some ice cream cones and roll them in melted dark chocolate and then top them with crushed Smarties to decorate.

    These festive-looking morsels of goodness would make the perfect centrepiece if they were stacked high on a cake stand in the middle of your table. Then use icing on the top of the muffins to make them look like mini Christmas puddings.

    This has got to be the most simple, yet effective way of creating a Santa hat on top of a brownie. Use our ultimate chocolate brownie recipe to create the brownies and then add some strawberries and cream, or icing.

    The cracked chocolate coating adds homemade charm and will let your guests know (if you haven't told them already!) that you’ve created this showstopper from scratch.

    Chocolate Christmas pudding

    This is the ultimate alternative to a traditional Christmas pudding. Whip up a couple chocolate sponges, layer them on top of each other (with a layer of icing) and then shape into a dome shape.

    Add some more icing to the outside, then grab some Maltesers and stick them on top of the icing. You can then add some white icing along with red and green sugar icing for the holly.

    We don't know about you, but there are always profiteroles in our house during Christmas. These ones are filled with delicious chocolate cream, but you can use plain whipped cream, if you prefer.
