We've joined up with Hey Girls to provide 1 million free sanitary products for girls in the UK

One in 10 girls in the UK can't afford sanitary products. Each month, they're forced to use loo roll, socks or even newspaper instead. Period poverty is a first world problem.We've joined up with <a href="https://www.heygirls.co.uk/" target="_blank">Hey Girls</a> - a social enterprise from Dunbar in Scotland, which provides sanitary towels for women who can't afford to buy their own.For every box of day-time or night-time Hey Girls sanitary towels you buy in store, the enterprise will provide a box to a woman or girl in need.   Celia Hodson and her daughters Becky and Kate came up with the idea based on their belief that no girl or young woman should ever have to compromise her wellbeing or health.    Being a single parent, Celia understands first-hand the financial strain of buying sanitary protection when struggling to survive on benefits. After realising that the situation for women hasn&rsquo;t changed or improved in twenty years, Celia decided that something had to be done.<img alt="hey_girls_founder_outside__square" class="ci-image ci-square" src="https://ui3.assets-asda.com/dm/hey_girls_founder_outside__square_GL?scl=1"> Hey Girls has now joined forces with Asda to continue to tackle Period Poverty through their Buy One Give One model, so every time a customer buys a packet of towels for themselves, they also pay for one to be donated to someone who is struggling with these additional costs of living.   Hey Girls is aiming to sell 1 million pads in Asda stores over the next year, meaning 1 million pads will also be donated. They will also be offering tampons, menstrual cups and reusable pads in the next few months - all via the Buy One Give One model. Celia said: “This is a very exciting opportunity for us and we&rsquo;re delighted to have launched our sanitary products in 223 Asda stores. “Our Buy One Give One model allows us to provide sanitary pads to those who cannot afford them and we&rsquo;re so grateful to Asda for helping us to tackle period poverty.“We have big goals we want to achieve over the next year and we&rsquo;re confident that with the help of Asda and its customers we&rsquo;ll be able to make a huge difference.”<img alt="hey_girls_founders_both_smiling__square" class="ci-image ci-square" src="https://ui3.assets-asda.com/dm/hey_girls_founders_both_smiling__square_GL?scl=1">All of Hey Girls&rsquo; products are environmentally friendly with the sanitary pads made from sustainable bamboo and corn fibre and sold in biodegradable wrapping and recyclable cardboard boxes. Heather Turnbull, Asda&rsquo;s regional buying manager for Scotland, said: “Celia and everyone at Hey Girls are tackling an ongoing problem that really does need to be addressed more publicly.
